Seven teams win division titles in CYO League
The Mercer County CYO Basketball League held its championship games this weekend and seven divisions crowned champions.
Trenton Catholic Academy took the Boys’ Varsity Division with a 38-20 win over St. Paul’s Gold. TCA was led by Thomas Sorber with eight points and Sorber’s all-around play earned him the playoff Most Valuable Player award.
Anna Primerano was impressive with the basketball in her hands as she poured in 19 points leading Our Lady of Sorrows to the Girls’ Varsity championship with a 27-19 win over St. Gregory the Great Blue.
Primerano took home the playoff Most Valuable Player honor in the Division.
It was a battle of Gold teams in the Boy’s JV Division as St. Raphael’s Gold took on St. Paul’s Gold in the championship game and the Saints came away with a 43-18 win over the Princeton team.
Playoff MVP Destine Evans led St. Raphael’s with 17 points.
St. Paul’s Gold girl’s took care of business, however, with a 32-11 win over St. Greg’s Blue. Izzy Augustine led the way for St. Paul’s with 17 points and her performance earned her the Most Valuable Player award.
The Boys’ Freshman Division had a nail-biter when Princeton Academy Green took a 25-22 overtime decision over St. Paul’s Blue. Ronan Sylvan paced the Princeton Academy five with nine points.
Over in the Red & White Boy’s Freshman Division it was St. Gregory’s Blue getting past Princeton Academy Green by a score of 2713 with Julian Malunow leading the way with 10 points.
The Girls’ Freshman League saw St. Gregory’s Blue down St. Paul’s Gold by a 14-4 score with Alcon Parker hitting for six points.
