Manning’s Arm Stronger

-

Quarterback Eli Manning, now in his 16th season, said he feels stronger after working with a new trainer, Mickey Brueckner, this offseason on baseball exercises involving the shoulder, rotator cuff, legs and core.

“In football training, not everybody is doing as much shoulder rotator cuff or core as a quarterback needs,” Manning said. “In the offseason, some of those lower body lifts are similar or the same, but I think just taking the time, you have to start early, get your movements right, get your functionality right, and get stronger in your legs, because that helps your arm strength. It all generates from your lower half, your core, and your agility.

“Just working hard on the weight training parts of it and keeping my legs strong and feeling healthy and making sure things are working properly. A lot of arm care, just keeping my arm strong or improve my arm strength at this level. I feel like it has paid off, I’m throwing the ball well.”

Shurmur said the offensive line feels “more settled” than a year ago, pointing to the additions of proven veterans Kevin Zeitler and Remmers on the right side. Solder and guard Will Hernandez have also been working together for a full year on the left side. “I have a real good vision of probably the front six or seven guys, and where they’ll play,” Shurmur said. … The Giants are proceeding as if wide receiver Golden Tate will be available to play Week 1 as he appeals a fourgame suspension for violating the league’s PED policy. “If all of a sudden you don’t have a player, then you make the adjustments,” Shurmur said. … The Giants practiced indoors (closed to the public) Tuesday because of thunder. The team practices WednesdaySaturday, is off Sunday and practices next Monday-Tuesday before the first preseason game Aug. 8 against the Jets.
