Teen dies after being shot in head
TRENTON >> A 16-year-old who was shot in the head last weekend has died, authorities confirmed.
Quamire Housley, of Trenton, was initially listed in grave condition after being shot on the 300 block of Walnut Avenue around 10 p.m. Police said the suspect, who has not been arrested or identified, approached from an alleyway and opened fire.
Housley was pronounced dead July 30, the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office said. His obituary says he died Aug. 2. His burial is Saturday in Ewing after his services at the Greater Faith Church of Christ in Hamilton.
Authorities said it was too early to know a motive for the slaying – Trenton’s seventh of the year and the first since May when 18-year-old Unique Anderson was killed during a mass shooting on the 100 block of Walnut Avenue.
Community activist Darren “Freedom” Green lamented the muted response to the teen’s death on Facebook and offered his condolences to the family.
“We buried Cioni Kirkman at 15,” he wrote. “As a community of people we should be deeply troubled, alarmed, and outraged that we are burying Our Babies. The world is full of problems that need to be solved and resolved.
“Who knows if these that we now bury, were birthed to be the solutions to those problems. The doctor who killed cancer, so cancer can stop killing us. The lawyer who worked on the criminal justice system so that justice could truly visit our communities. The prosecutor who approached sentencing for others with a fair and just mindset. The teacher who showed up daily with a curriculum rooted in empathy, love, and affirmation. The superintendent who decided to demand greatness in the system he/she governed and inspired.”
