Another positive event to growing list of successes

Travelers around Trenton know that many positive events, behaviors and opportunities exist here including neighborhoods or blocks where people enjoy good lives.

With that reality in mind, residents who play a role in moving forward agendas and activities that benefit Trenton, especially children and elderly, can bypass introductions about the city getting a bad reputation for bad news.

So, let’s discuss Mijah Christie, born and raised here with an education background of success forged in Trenton public schools — another successful role model, living proof that learning success tethers desire and hunger.“I was the first in my family to receive a Master’s degree and I knew that I always wanted to make a difference. Today, I am a proud teacher of our district and I have been looking for ways to give back to our youth,” Christie wrote.

“When I started an online women’s boutique a few months ago, I had one goal in mind: to use a portion of the profits to buy school supplies for our city youth. As an educator, I know how important it is for our youth to be supported and equipped with the tools that will lead to their success. On Friday August 9th, XO Mijah Boutique had its first Back to School Giveaway at Trenton Community Starbucks. It was a successful event and students who came received free school supplies to help kick start the school year. It was a dream and an honor to give back to my community.”

The Christie contribution earned appreciation, especially with an objective that focuses on youth. Trenton will remain mired in status quo until city leaders, parents and students make education our top priority understanding that a new high schoolmatters only if early childhood education flourishes.

Christie noted: “As a future school leader, it is my goal to ensure students feel welcomed and supported. When they feel this way, they will feel motivated to do what is right. The world is an ugly place and sometimes, our city can be as well. I want to serve as a reminder that there is good in this world and there are people who want the best for them. Our youth have the power to achieve their dreams, break generational curses and do what they feel may be the impossible. They are the future and we must invest in them if we want to see a change.”

For the record, Trenton delivers a daily agenda of positive events that attract minimal interests whether the venue is the Trenton Free Public Library, The Old Barracks Museum, William Trent House Museum or the Levitt Amp Trenton Music Series which provides ten free concerts through September.

Plus, the capital city benefits from numerous non-profits that provide support for families and youth. Trenton would suffer worse fates without the people who show up everyday to help with life challenges. Christie offered thanks to Dots Visions Vintage Brand, Chade’ Harris, Malikah Washington, Melquan Christie, Cary Dawkins, Marvis Christie, Amanda Bernaerts, Terrell Anderson and Jeffre James.

By the way, each individual Trenton resident can offer something to improve this city, regardless the size of the initiative.

Some dream big agendas while othersmay simply sweep in front of their house daily or look in on an elderly native. The mantra remains — do something positive everyday and always support quality education.
