Thunder hit 4 homers to win finale at Reading

- Staff report

READING, PA. >> Brandon Wagner smashed a grand slam and the Thunder beat both the weather and Reading to take a 12-6 decision on Sunday afternoon in a game that was stopped in the seventh inning due to rain.

Wagner’s slam, his eighth homer of the season, in the seventh inning capped a five-run inning.

The Thunder (30-28, 6856) hit four home runs total and took two of three from the Fightin Phils (3325, 72-53) to trim Reading’s EL East lead to three games. Trenton has already secured its playoff spot by winning the first half and will most likely face the Fightin Phils even if it rallies to win the second half. The teams play a four-game set at Arm & Hammer Park to close the regular season.

Angel Aguilar, Kyle Holder and Rashad Crawford also went deep for the Thunder. The four homers matched a season-high set on May 27 in Binghamton, and the series victory was the team’s fourth in a row, also matching a season high.

Daniel Alvarez (7-2) got the win with two innings of scoreless, one-hit relief while Adonis Medina (66) took the loss. For the Fightin Phils, Luke Williams homered and singled, driving in three runs.
