Serial Robber: Elijah Hallett, 25, was arrested and charged with holding up three stores in Trenton and another establishment in neighboring Lawrence Township. Trenton Police had been hot on his heels since he first held up a liquor store Aug. 7, just before 5 p.m., on the 300 block of Mulberry Street. Cops said Hallett went into the liquor store with a handgun, pointed it at the clerk behind the register and demanded cash. He took most of the money from the cash register and ran from the store, down Enterprise Avenue toward Cherry Street, disappearing from sight. Four days later, on Aug. 11, Hallett allegedly struck again, holding up the Mundy’s liquor store on the 900 block of Brunswick Avenue. Cops alleged that robbery fit Hallett’s M.O.. He allegedly went into the store, shielding his face from the cameras with a white and black mask. He pointed a gun at the clerk and told him to hand over cash, then picked up the cash register drawer and emptied it out. Hallett opened another drawer and took more cash from there before running off. Hallett allegedly returned to the same block of his first holdup when he struck a gas station on the 300 block of Mulberry Street on the afternoon of Aug. 14. An attendant told cops that Hallett, dressed in dark clothing, a white mask and carrying a green umbrella, went inside the store and demanded money from the clerk. He threw a plastic bag to the worker, pointed a gun at him and instructed to hurry up and put the cash in the bag. Hallett allegedly made off with hundreds of dollars, escaping down Enterprise Avenue. Cops reviewed video from the area and obtained a license plate number from a white Nissan Rogue used in the robbery. The vehicle was traced back to a car dealership in Burlington. Cops learned the car had been loaned to Hallett’s father, who cooperated with police. He told cops his son had access to the vehicle at the time of the robberies. Detectives learned that Hallett was staying with a relative in East Trenton. Detective Chris Ortiz and Sam Gonzalez went to the home looking for Hallett but he wasn’t there. Hallett reached out to the detectives and told them where he was. They took him into custody. Hallett confessed to the three robberies and another one in Lawrence Township. He let detectives know where they could find the gun and mask used in the armed robberies. They were stashed in a backpack recovered in in downtown Trenton. The weapon turned out to be a pellet gun.
