Richmond, 16, makes historic run to Springdale GC’s Women’s Championship
Cue that “Welcome Back Kotter” song by John Sebastian.
The who? The what? Oh, right. That’s so mid-1970s that even Eden Richmond’s parents would offer deer-in-headlights bemusement.
Anyhow, how about a nice warm welcome for Ms. Richmond, starting her junior year at Princeton High School after a twoyear education hiatus at IMG Academy in Florida where she handled a full-regimen of learning and golf instruction.
Richmond, 16, enjoyed an interesting summer, jam packed with golf tournaments and being reacquainted with life in Princeton and daily interactions with parents.
An essay on summer activity would include her historic power run to the Springdale Golf Club Women’s Club Championship as Richmond defeated another sweet-16 challenger, Caroline Tamasi.
“Winning the club championship was really special. I didn’t know what to expect toward the final matches. So, I just tried my best and the results came. That was really exciting for me because I really wanted it. I had worked really hard. I had the best caddie in Emily Cohen. She’s a freshman and on the golf team at Elon. And Jen Green (club member) was on my bag for the second day and she was really great, too,” Richmond said.
Richmond said she enjoyed the experience of being away from home.
“I loved the responsibility that comes with being away, more independence, that sort of thing. Learned how to balance my time. The Academy provided golf instruction and play in the morning followed by education in the afternoon. I want to improve because the hope is to land a college golf scholarship. I don’t think I want to play professionally,” Richmond explained.
Richmond did come home during summer months which allowed her to catch up with friends and to spend time with family. Her sister, Madison, began her sophomore year at NYU while a brother, Toby, entered eighth grade this month.
Richmond said she hopes to write for the Princeton High School newspaper and “I’ve joined a couple of leadership groups,” she noted. The Springdale Golf Club championship and other impressive golf performances last summer literally became smaller with what’s up next for Richmond.
“I hope to get my license in October. You New Jersey drivers better watch out,” Richmond joked.
Same warning for Springdale Golf Club competitors — Eden Richmond is back home.
