PHILADELPHIA » Anyone who’s lost a friend to a deadly illness can sympathize with Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz.

Especially a pal who never made it to his teen years.

Wentz had to gather himself Wednesday describing the passing of Landon Solberg, a courageous 12-yearold who passed away Tuesday after a two-year bout with a rare form of cancer.

“Trying not to get emotional but a good kid like that who was able to go through our AO1 Foundation’s programs, we got to know him really well, and his family,” Wentz said. “To see his fight and his faith through his fight, his faith in Jesus really inspired me. Just seeing how he fought over and over — it’s tough for me to see that. My prayers have been with his family. I know Landon is out there celebrating with Jesus.”

The last thoughts barely made it out of the mouth of Wentz, who last spring was proud to have Solberg throw out the first pitch at the AO1 Foundation’s charity softball game at Citizens Bank Park.

Wentz walked up to the podium for his news conference clad in a T-shirt that read “Landon’s Light.”

• • • Linebacker Kamu Grugier-Hill says he’s ready to roll after rehabbing an MCL sprain from training camp.

Naturally, Grugier-Hill’s first scheduled practice was downgraded to a walkthrough with the Eagles short of healthy bodies three days after a loss to the Falcons.

Running back Corey Clement said his shoulder has improved enough for him to shed the sling, and that he’s hopeful of returning soon.

Eagles head coach Doug Pederson confirmed that defensive tackle Tim Jernigan (foot) likely would be sidelined longer than receivers DeSean Jackson (groin) and Alshon Jeffery, who are day-to-day.

Pederson said he wouldn’t have updates until later in the week, despite reports indicating the receivers would be sidelined up to two weeks.

Additionally, tight end Dallas Goedert (calf) is day to day.

Clement, Jackson, Jeffery, Jernigan and offensive tackle Jordan Mailata didn’t practice Wednesday.

Grugier-Hill was listed as a partial participant along with defensive end Derek Barnett (shoulder), defensive tackle Fletcher Cox (toe), safety Johnathan Cyprien (knee), safety Rudy Ford (hamstring) and linebacker Nate Gerry (knee, calf).

Quarterback Nate Sudfeld (wrist) was a full participant.
