TRENTON » One man died and two others were injured following a deadly midday shooting Sunday afternoon near the Donnelly Homes complex, the third instance of gunplay in a weekend filled with carnage, police said.

The victim of the shooting was identified by police sources as Daquan Patterson.

Police responded to the 100 block of Roselle Avenue around 1:45 p.m. after the city’s ShotSpotter system detected at least 14 rounds in the area, sources said.

Police found three victims, two who were taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, Trenton Police spokesman Capt. Stephen Varn said. One of the men, Patterson, died shortly after arriving at the hospital, Varn said.

The two people were shot in the back and leg, and another woman suffered a graze wound, Varn said.

Sunday’s violence marked the third shooting in as many days.

Eight people have been wounded since the start of the weekend, including five struck in separate shootings Friday.

Three men were injured in the 100 block of East Ingham Avenue, and a nighttime shooting injured a man and woman on the 1500 block of South Clinton Avenue, police said.

Officers responded to the 100 block of East Ingham Avenue near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard about 2 p.m. Friday and found three men suffering from gunshot wounds, including an 18-year-old hit in the pelvis and knee, a 23-year-old struck in the torso and a 19-year-old who suffered a graze wound, according to police.

One victim refused medical treatment for his minor graze injury while the other two victims in the East Ingham shooting were transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in stable condition, Varn said.

Officers responded to the 1500 block of South Clinton Avenue about 9:40 p.m. Friday and located two victims struck by gunfire, including a 22-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman, police said.

Both South Clinton victims are New York residents, and both of them were inside of a vehicle when shot, Varn said, adding the male suffered a gunshot wound to the cheek and female suffered a gunshot wound to her back. They both were taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in stable condition.

Varn said the victims in the South Clinton Avenue shooting were supposed to meet with two individuals in the area when armed suspects entered the victims’ vehicle, opened fire and fled.

Police haven’t announced any arrests in either shooting.

The Mercer County Homicide Task Force is investigating Sunday’s homicide.
