Engram Undergoing Surgery

-

Tight end Evan Engram, whom was placed on season-ending injured reserve Tuesday, said he will undergo foot surgery Friday in Green Bay with Dr. Robert Anderson.

“It’s not a full Lisfranc injury, but the ligament is still not healed correctly,” Engram said. “There’s a little bit of space so they are going to put, from my knowledge, joints back to together to let that ligament heal properly and kind of stabilize the joints so the ligament is not stretched.”

Engram said his recovery timeline is not yet clear but that he will “100 percent” be ready for training camp next July.

After he hurt his foot against the Cowboys on Nov. 4, Engram said the initial diagnosis was a two-to-four week injury. But surgery became necessary once it was determined that the tendon wasn’t healing properly.

“It was a tough injury, a tricky injury, and that joint is really important in my foot, just how I’m learning how my foot is structured,” Engram said. “It just didn’t get better. This is kind of a safety thing future-wise why I’m getting this procedure done.”

Engram has played in only eight games this season. He has recorded 1,766 receiving yards through three seasons (34 games) and will enter the final year of his rookie contract next season (with a team option for 2021).

“This is a special place, there is a lot of history here. We haven’t lived up to the standard that’s held here,” Engram said. “I want to be a part of that turnaround, I want to be a part of the turnaround that’s coming. Like I said, it’s out my control and we’ll have to see. But, of course, I want to be here.”
