Officials say murder of woman was ‘targeted’ attack
TRENTON » A woman who was shot to death Wednesday night is believed to have been “targeted,” officials said Thursday.
The fatal shooting death of Starquasia Harris, 24, of Trenton, marked the capital city’s first murder in 2020.
Police responded to a break-in around 10:40 p.m. at a home on the first block of Elm Street, reportedly involving two suspects – one who was armed with a gun.
When police arrived at the home, they found Harris inside suffering from a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later, Trenton Police Capt. Stephen Varn said.
Detectives from the Mercer County Homicide Task Force are investigating the slaying. No one has been arrested and police did not provide any description of the suspects.
Mayor Reed Gusciora said in a statement later in the day that police believe Harris was the victim of a “targeted act of violence,” but he didn’t elaborate on a motive.
Police received reports of up to three gunshots, officials said, and officers re-canvassed the area Thursday to uncover any evidence that went uncollected Wednesday night.
“We believe that this is a targeted act of violence and do not expect further acts of violence regarding the incident,” Gusciora said. “We are diligently working to apprehend any suspects and feel confident that they will be in custody shortly.”
Anyone with information about the murder is asked to contact police at 609-989-4155.
