Jane Sutcliffe
1922-2020
Jane Sutcliffe of Burlington Twp. passed away Monday January 27, 2020 at the Masonic Village at Burlington at the age of 97. Jane was always a Red Sox fan from early childhood until the end. She suffered year after year of Red Sox humiliation until 2004 when they finally won their first World Series since 1918 and two years age, at 96, she was able to see the Sox win the World Series again. Jane was born on May 7, 1922 in Pasadena, CA to Ida and Edgar Willard. She moved to Bedford, Man at age 5 and stayed a devoted New England resident until World War II. She went to camp on Lake Winnipesaukee, NH at age 7 for the entire summer, until age 15 when she was a counselor. She received a silver cup for the camper of the year honor which she cherished to this day. Jane graduated from Lexington HS and Catherine Dell finishing school in Boston. At 15 Jane began a lifelong relationship with the Rainbow Girls and Eastern Star. She was a fifty year member of Eastern Star and served as a grand officer two times. Jane married Robert in March 1943 after a seven week courtship. Robert was a fighter pilot and in November 1943 transferred to Pacific War.
Robert became an ACE shooting down five Japanese planes. That was a great source of pride throughout her life. Jane’s love of Lake Winnipesaukee and NH continued through most of her adult life. In 1962 Robert and Jane purchased a home on the beautiful shores of Lake Winnipesaukee. Later, they purchased an airplane that allowed them to fly to NH weekly from April until November. They kept the NH house and the airplane until Robert’s retirement to Florida in 1979. They spent 21 years in FL in Palm Harbor and Spring Hill. Finally in 2003, with all their Eastern Star and Masonic time, Jane and Robert moved into the Masonic Village. Robert passed away in 2009 after 66 years of marriage. Jane had three sons, Robert Lyman, Peter Chandler and David Harlow and their wives Priscilla and Claire, four grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by son Robert Lyman. A spring service is being planned. Arrangements are under the direction of the Page Funeral Home, Burlington, where messages of condolence may be sent to the family through www.pagefuneralhome.com.
