HS GIRLS LACROSSE

Senior Spotlight: Pennington’s Kate Long

- Joe O’Gorman Columnist

Since the high school spring sports season has been canceled it is only fitting The Trentonian recognize senior girls lacrosse players.

Kate Long has been a three-sport athlete over her career at Pennington, playing field hockey, lacrosse and competing on the swim team. Coming off a lacrosse season that saw her score 26 goals and pickup 36 ground balls, she was ready for a great senior season.

Long has 46 career goals and certainly would’ve hit a few milestones.

JO’G » What have you missed the most about not being in school? KL» Ever since the beginning, I thought of what my senior year would bring. Being the youngest of the Long family legacy, ending it this way was not expected. However, through all the upset I am so grateful to have gained memories I have, and relationships I hope to never lose.

JO’G » How have you been filling the hours without lacrosse?

KL» Although I am sad to be missing out on my last lacrosse season on the Tom Liwosz Field, I have been staying very active. I have mostly been doing CrossFit workouts with my brother, and getting more running in. Our team has not stayed completely distant with zoom calls keeping us connected. We have even took part in a 5k together to raise money for the Headstrong foundation.

JO’G » What drew you to the University of Colorado and are you excited?

KL» CU Boulder has everything I was looking for in a school, great spirit, an active environment, and a strong community life. I could not be more excited to begin my next four years in fall whenever that may be.

JO’G » What is your favorite Pennington moment?

KL » There are so many moments at Pennington, specifically from lacrosse season, that I would want to relive again. Whether it’s the games we win in overtime, the injuries we overcame throughout the season, or the infamous ice baths. I will never get my senior year back, but I would never trade it for the legendary three I had before. JO”G » What have you learned through these difficult times?

KL » The biggest lesson that I have learned during this pandemic is to never take advantage of time with your family. We have spent this time in quarantine together doing work around the house, games, and creative themed dinners. Through all the chaos and hardship going on in our world right now, I am blessed to be here with them.
