Hamilton Township police have settled numerous excessive force lawsuits over the last decade amounting in thousands of dollars.

bragging rights for the cops.”

Sakoutis is one of the most recent people to cash in on the cops’ misconduct, securing a $1.2 million settlement against Hamilton Township, which did not admit wrongdoing.

Sakoutis was riding his bicycle in Hamilton Township about 1:45 a.m. Jan. 10, 2014, at the intersection of Liberty and Chambers streets when a Hamilton Police patrol car stopped him.

The officers exited their patrol car and launched an unprovoked physical assault, using excessive and unjustifiable force, he alleged.

He suffered five broken ribs, two punctures to the lungs and injuries to his head, face and body, according to his complaint.

“Teddy Sakoutis was in a coma for a month,” Lord said of her client. “He had a punctured lung and sat in the back of the cop car saying he couldn’t breathe while the cops laughed. Sadly they are still on the street working. The perpetrators do not get fired or charged criminally.”

Hamilton Police Officers

Brian Davis and Matthew J. Mayhew were named as defendants in Sakoutis’ complaint.

“I can confirm that the Township’s insurance carrier settled with Mr. Sakoutis on March 20th without admission of fault and with the stipulation that the claims against Officers Davis and Mayhew be voluntarily dismissed with prejudice,” Bianca Jerez, chief of staff to Mayor Jeff Martin, said July 1 via email.
