Hamilton tax increase

-

In regard to your recent coverage of the tax increase in Hamilton, I wanted to say that your coverage was very vanilla! Not surprising though since everyone on the Council and the Mayor are of the same party, congratulating each other on a budget well done.

Your coverage didn’t even begin to question any part of the budget as would have likely been the case with the last administration. Sure there’s the Cov19 excuse but let’s be real, as long as the Democrats present it and like it, that’s good enough for you.

For once I would love to see news coverage that is honest on BOTH sides of the aisle.

Hamilton is now a safe and perfect place. With a budget everyone loves. No discussion about the animal shelter, no discussion on any budget item.. Headlines: “Tax increase passes.” Yeah. Council passes it. Shocker. If the last administration tried this even with Cov19, just wondering what those headlines would have been... certainly not vanilla, your favorite flavor in office

— Anything but vanilla

Our coverage of previous budgets was more exciting because the fights surrounding it were more exciting. We are just reporting on the meetings at this point. The virtual meetings are probably a big part of the reason this budget hasn’t seen the normal fireworks. But a boring budget means for boring stories about the budget.

To be clear though, my favorite flavor is actually caramel. Oh, but you’re talking about coverage, not coffee.
