What the shortened 2020 high school football season will look like now has much more clarity.

After much debate and speculation, the West Jersey Football League has finally settled on a revised scheduled for its 94 league members.

The New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association announced July 10 that the fall sports season would be pushed back by one month, with football beginning on Oct. 2. Tentatively, sectional four-team playoff brackets would be played on the weekends of Nov. 14 and Nov. 21.

Out of caution during the coronavirus pandemic, the WJFL did away with divisions this year and instead scheduled teams based pri- marily on geography.

The WJFL’s new schedule provides each school with six regular-season games from Oct. 2 through Nov. 7. Sev- eral teams have Thanksgiving Day games on Nov. 26, which is the last day of fall competition, and instead have a bye week earlier in the season. Nearly every school has three home games and three away games.

Non-playoff teams will be permitted to schedule games on the weekends of Nov. 14 and Nov. 21, so schools can play up to eight games.

Here’s how the season is shaping up for local schools.
