Eng, Hopewell rally past Millburn

WHITEHOUSE STATION » Rickey Eng’s two-run double in the top of the seventh inning keyed a fourrun surge as the Hopewell summer baseball team got past Millburn, 9-5, to go unbeaten in pool play in the Whitehouse Back The Blue Tournament at Brown-Ingram Memorial Field Sunday.

Eng completed his day with two hits and three runs batted in for head coach Mike Coryell’s squad.

With the locals trailing, 3-1, in the early going, Dylan Galgano hit a threerun home run, but the Millers kept tightening up the score, sending the contest into the final two innings tied at 5.

Atticus Jamison kept battling on the mound, going the distance to help Hopewell earn first place in Bracket 2 of the tournament. In the process, the win eliminated Millburn, which had a chance at forcing a three-way tie in the bracket. Instead, Allentown finished as Bracket 2 runner-up.

Hopewell will play Bracket 1 runner-up Clinton County (N.Y.) at 1 p.m. Monday at Brown-Ingram Memorial Field in the semifinal round.

The winner of that contest will turn around and play in the tournament championsh­ip game at 4 p.m.

By finishing as the second-place team from Bracket 2, A’town returns to Brown-Ingram Memorial Field to play Bracket 1 champion and host Whitehouse at 10 a.m. Monday in the semifinal round.

The winner of that game will play again at 4 p.m. for the championsh­ip.
