State finals for baseball, softball this weekend

The 2020 New Jersey Little League State Finals for Baseball and Softball will be played thisweeken­d at theHolbroo­k Little League complex in Jackson (366Bartley­Ave.).

The 12- Year-Old Robbins ville AllStar softball team is the only representa­tive from local District 12 still playing.

Section 3 champion R’ville will take on Section 4 winner Pennsville from District 3 at 12:30 p.m. Saturday on Holbrook’ s Bart ley Field No .1.

At the same time on Bart ley Field No. 2, Section 1 champion Morris town National from District 1 will take on Section 2 winner Little Ferry/ South Hack en sack/ Bo got a

from District 6 in the other state semifinal.

Because of the coronaviru­s pandemic, this year’s state finalswill all be single-eliminatio­n games.

The softball teams which lose Saturday will return for an 11 a.m. thirdplace game Sunday. The softball teams which win Saturday will play for the state crown at 1 p.m. Sunday.

The state title will be the highest possible reward for any of these teams since National Regional sand the Little League World Series have been canceled for both softball and baseball because of COVID-19.

The Joe Graziano 12YO Baseball Little League State Finals will also be played at Holbrook Little League, beginning Saturday.

Section 1 champion Madison of District 1 will play Section 2 winner Englewood Cliffs of District 6 will play at 11:30 a.m.

Section 3 champion Brick of District 18 will play Section 4 winner Somers Point ofDistrict 16at2p.m. in the second semifinal.

The baseball teams that lose Saturday will return to Jackson Sunday for an 11:30 a.m. third-place game. The baseball teams that win Saturday will playat 1p.m. Sunday inthe state championsh­ip game.
