Trump and the truth

-

One of the most important lessons we taught our children was to always tell us the truth. No matter what trouble they may have gotten into, if they were truthful with us we supported them and worked out the problem. If they lied, they paid a severe price, our valuable trust. We believe that this policy of truthfulness was important in the raising of now three good people. I wonder how forty percent of the nation consisting of mostly smart hard working people got sucked into a vortex of daily lies from Trump. Trump holds a position that influences millions of people and to see intelligent friends of mine quote verbatim the lies and spew that is Trumpism and unashamedly untrue is unbelievable. I now see how third world leaders totally control countries and people for decades, while enriching themselves. That could never happen in America, or could it?

It’s tragic that the importance of truth has fallen so low in American society. One man is responsible for this but we are all responsible as well as Trump was never held accountable. Elected leaders put money and reelection over truth and let Trump tell his 25,000 lies. Where will this take us in the coming years? Many will be empowered to regularly lie to others and cheat on taxes. It’s now real to simply tell the lie over and over and it becomes truth. It’s a virus worse that Covid. Covid will eventually be eradicated, it will be difficult to get back to truth telling. This will be the lasting legacy of Trump. America will be paying the price for years to come.

It’s terrifying to think how many lies he actually told, all while claiming to be a straightshooter who just tells it like it is.
