Trenton native Toure traded from Red Bulls to Rapids
Trenton makes, and now Colorado takes.
The Red Bulls have traded Trenton native Dantouma ‘Yaya’ Toure to the Colorado Rapids in exchange for $50,000 in General Allocation Money, the club announced on Thursday. NYRB may also receive additional allocation money if certain performance metrics are met, as well as a sell-on fee in the event of a transfer outside of Major League Soccer.
“Yaya is an exciting talent who has already shown tremendous potential through his performances in the USL Championship as a 16-year-old,” Padraig Smith, Colorado’s executive VP & general manager, said in a release. “He’s powerful and explosive on the ball and has an ability to take on defenders that allows him to be a difference-maker. We believe he has all the qualities necessary to develop into an elite player and are excited to see what the future holds for him.”
Toure, who turns 17 in June, joined the Red Bulls Academy during the 201819 campaign from Players Development Academy. He made 13 appearances for NYRB II this past season, scoring three goals and adding three assists.
Nicknamed ‘The Scorenado,’ Toure broke onto the local scene during his 2016 freshman campaign at Trenton Central High when he was named to the Colonial Valley Conference First Team after scoring a league-high 28 goals.
The Rapids acquired Toure’s Homegrown rights in the deal and added him to their preseason roster. The Guinea-born Toure has also been involved with the U.S Under-17 program and is eligible to represent either national team.
