Status and Krispy Kreme gratis for immunization
New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy tested the possibility of vaccine passports during an appearance on CNBC on Friday.
“Don’t get rid of the card, that’s likely to be something valuable,” Murphy, the lone U.S. governor up for re-election this year, said. Murphy added that proof of immunization could be the ticket for easy access to sporting events or to board a plane.
“Laminate it and put it in your wallet,” Murphy instructed. Segue to a revised performance of “Mice and Men” when Lennie presses, “Tell me about the doughnuts, Phil.”
Starting Monday, Krispy Kreme customers can receive a free Original Glazed doughnut by showing their COVID-19 vaccine card.
Yep, you can munch a free Krispy Kreme original glazed with proof of vaccination. Wait for it — a person with a vaccination card can receive a freebie doughnut daily for the rest of the year. So happy, my eyes have glazed.
What incentive for immunization although a steady diet of free glazed doughnuts challenges Murphy’s directive to flatten the curve, in this case stomachs that have expanded during a year of no activity.
While COVID-19 references the pandemic, the numeral connects with weight gain as many U.S. adults added almost 20 pounds or more during a year that included stay-at-home orders which should have included rules about refrigerator visits and limited food deliveries.
Republicans have pushed back against Murphy’s vaccine card passport idea.
“Governor Phil Murphy’s suggestion that Garden Staters could be required to show proof of vaccine is a health privacy minefield,” RGA spokesperson Will Reinert said in a statement.
“Hard-working New Jersey residents have the right to keep their health care decisions between themselves and their doctor, and don’t need Phil Murphy in the waiting room telling patients to make sure they ‘laminate’ their vaccine card on the way out.”
First, “hard-working New Jerseyans” move toward extinction.
COVID-19 has produced many lethargic residents with rounded middles, big bottoms and shortened work days.
Plus, Republicans talking about supporting disadvantaged people and civil liberties while they attempt obstruction of voting rights and a woman’s right to control her body, represents dastardly duplicity.
Republicans should not deny the rights of sweet-toothed residents to flash vaccine cards for a free Krispy Kreme glazed doughnut. This is America, land of the brave and home to free doughnuts and $1400 stimulus checks.
Dave Skena, chief marketing officer of Krispy Kreme, said in a press release.
“We all want to get COVID-19 behind us as fast as possible and we want to support everyone doing their part to make the country safe by getting vaccinated as soon as the vaccine is available to them.”
Waiting for other businesses to join Krispy Kreme. How about free fries from McDonald’s; onion rings from Burger King; a slice from Pizza Hut; free Frosty from Wendy’s, etc.
U.S. residents deserve a break following an extremely long year that included cancellation or postponement of myriad pleasures, including free water ice from Rita’s on the first day of Spring.
Rita’s did deliver free water ice to local area medical staff members who rank as heroes during unimaginable challenges. Sweet.
Let’s be clear about COVID-19. Residents who received a vaccine and card should have easier access to boarding planes, sporting events and gaining access to other activities. Give me liberty and a seat in the section holding vaccinated clients.
Vaccine cards represent a new dating device as many hookups will require proof of immunization. Love and sexual pursuits may depend on vaccine status.
Personally, want a shirt or pin that acknowledges “I’m a Modern-a Man” or “Kiss Me, I’m Vaccinated” or “This Johnson, covered by Johnson & Johnson.”
The closest Krispy Kreme store to Trenton exists 16 miles away at 1729 Street Rd., Bensalem, Pa.
Big finish! Mask up. Maintain safe distance. Wash hands regularly. Avoid crowds.
