Lazy-faire enforcement causes Trenton eyesores
What a difference a day made.
No sun or flowers although a Trentonian article sparked immediate action regarding trash.
The backyard of a Chambersburg house near Hamilton and Chestnut avenues looked wonderfully better.
Happy that the property owner moved quickly to remove the compilation of garbage. Disappointed that exposure or shame forced action. Flummoxed by this city’s refusal to enforce rules regarding property maintenance, parking and responsible citizenship.
As with many blighted areas, should never have come to this. Lack of urgency and immediacy usually means accumulation of trash and despair.
Unfortunately, areas such as this exist throughout the City of Trenton as complacency, ignorance, indecency, lack of awareness and helps in the creation of deplorable conditions.
What’s next? Secure this building before squatters start a fire or a sex worker ends up hurt or dead.
Trespassers have already trashed the inside of this house. Bottles, cans, food containers and other items cover a front office.
East Ward Councilman Joe Harrison said he gained entry through an unlocked door.
“There’s people definitely living in the building,” Harrison said.
This feels like a 12-step program that leads toward recovery although let’s lose the front digit.
First, we admitted a problem and now let’s do something about this issue. Evict everyone in the building, clean and then secure this property.
Next, let’s find a buyer unless the owner plans to hold off sale until the revitalization of Chambersburg.
Not happening anytime soon as absentee landlords, many who deserve slum appendages, enjoy laissez faire lives.
Remember when city law required inspections in between renters. Nowadays, one family moves out on Tuesday and another moves in later that evening.
Welcome to Trenton.
