A Letter from Mayor Jeff Martin
Dear Trentonian Reader,
As Mayor of Hamilton Township, I am proud to call Hamilton home and to be a part of the Mercer County community. When I wrote you via this section last year we had just begun to face an unknown fight against the coronavirus, and now, a year later we know much more than we did in the beginning, and we continue to rage a war together against COVID-19.
The last year has been incredibly difficult for all of us - each experiencing our own hardships. Together in Hamilton alone, we have witnessed more than 6,000 positive cases, with unfortunately over 200 lives lost.
To honor those who lost their battle with COVID-19, and to mark the date on which we became aware that the first life in Hamilton was lost due to coronavirus, on the evening of April 1st in front of the Hamilton Township Free Public Library we will have a display of luminaries. One luminary will be lit for each Hamiltonian life taken too soon. We invite you to stop by and pause for a few moments to reflect on this past year, to pay homage to those we have lost and if you feel inclined to do so — add your own token or memento to the display.
As we reflect on a year of loss, physically, socially, financially and emotionally losses, and the accompanying stress associated with that loss, I want you to know what I see. I see our Hamilton community as more resilient than ever – committed to a brighter future than existed even pre-pandemic.
In the coming weeks and months, more of us will be vaccinated. We will return to a sense of normalcy in our lives. But as vaccines and warmer weather brings greater protections from the threat of the virus, I urge everyone to please continue to be vigilant to protect others who are at higher risk and either have not or cannot be vaccinated, by practicing the COVID-19 safety measures recommended by the CDC – social distance, mask up, wash your hands & stay home if you are sick.
Just as we were one year ago, we are all in this fight together and together is how we will continue to overcome it! From where I stand, your collective spirit continues to inspire me, you make me Hamilton Proud! Sincerely,
