Prior & Nami Business Systems serving Mercer County since 1910

Prior & Nami Business Systems is a Hamilton Township based dealership of primarily Konica Minolta, Canon, Sharp and Lexmark office equipment. They also offer computers & networks, shredders, postage meters and Managed Services for both print and I.T. Although the company’s landmark 110th anniversary celebration was overshadowed by Covid-19 in 2020, it has given Tony time to be introspective about its history.

The Prior Typewriter company opened for business in 1910. With Anthony (Tony) Nami, Jr. as the owner of Prior & Nami Business systems for the past 26 years, the company has continued its tradition of “Dependable Service” continuously for 111 years.

Core employees, who have worked for the company anywhere from 3 years to 40 years, continue to provide service to essential customers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Being a local company means a lot to Tony. He notes one of his best decisions was buying the business from the Prior family. “I wouldn’t be content working for someone. I had the opportunity to work for a manufacturer a couple of times, but being close to my family was more important than what I would have made as a manufacture’s rep. Even though the business takes up a lot of time, it’s kept me close to home, and I’m home very night with my family.”

Tony believes in recruiting local talent and over the past 26 years has employed students from area high schools including Hamilton West, Steinert and Nottingham. Over 45 Hamilton residents began their work life at Prior & Nami Business Systems and have gone on to successful careers Finance, Law Enforcement, and the Legal and Electrical professions. They are a part of the Prior & Nami family, part of the company’s history and Tony is proud of each one of them.

When scouting local talent, Tony says there is one challenging aspect for the copier industry: “Finding good service technicians that are still break-fix guys, who can look at a machine and figure them out, is a concern because a lot of the workforce now are kids who want to fix computers. They don’t have that same skill set as the older guys.” Having said this, Tony recognizes the changing technology and has embraced it by developing the company’s Computer/Network sales & service along with Managed I.T. services.

The Covid-19 Pandemic shutdown brought a new set of challenges to the copier industry with so many people working remotely. However, Tony saw this as an opportunity to open a new division: T NAMI Distributing and Construction. This new division of Prior & Nami Business Systems came from utilizing the staff to make improvements to the office while service calls were slow last Spring.

Operating out of same offices, located at 1666 Hamilton Avenue in Hamilton, T NAMI Distributing and Construction is now Mercer County’s area dealer/installer for MatèFlex Flooring (The Original Modular Flooring – for patios, basements, and utility rooms and much more), Energy Focus LED Lighting and Generac Generators and Power Washers. In addition, this division also offers Handyman Services for minor repairs and construction including, but not limited to: Real Estate inspection repair, painting, plumbing (drain cleaning/repair, faucet repair, caulking), minor carpentry and pressure washing.

What started at a typewriter business, now offers “cloud backup” services to clients. Adding new divisions, new solutions, new ways to help the community is how Tony Nami keeps a successful business thriving. Tony loves the saying; “The harder you work, the luckier you get”. There is no doubt this has be the recipe to his success!
