CVC Tournament continues this week
The Colonial Valley Conference Baseball Tournament resumes this week with most games figuring to be played Monday. However, with an inconsistent weather forecast, and at least one other issue announced, some games may be played either Tuesday (the official rain date) or later in the week.
Monday’s slate contains these quarterfinal matchups: sixth-seeded Hightstown (6-2) at third-seeded Hamilton West (7-4) at 4 p.m., 10th-seeded Nottingham (4-5) at second-seeded Steinert (7-2) at 4:15 p.m. and fifth-seeded Hopewell Valley (7-4) at fourth-seeded Notre Dame (6-3) at 4:15 p.m.
Also figuring to be played Monday are these consolation contests: Robbinsville (2-2), which is joining the field after a coronavirus pause, at seventh-seeded Lawrence (4-7) at 4 p.m. and 11th-seeded Ewing (2-7) at ninth-seeded West Windsor-Plainsboro South (3-5) at 4:15 p.m.
As was the case last week, it is best to check www.colonialvalleyconference.org
Monday morning to make sure games are happening when and where they are supposed to take place.
One game which definitely will not be played Monday is the quarterfinal between eighth-seeded Princeton (5-4) and topseeded Allentown (7-1), which is also on a COVID break. The teams were supposed to be playing a regular-season game Friday, but will forgo that to get in their tournament game at 10 a.m. Saturday.
After this week’s games, the CVC Tournament will move to its semifinal round Wednesday, May 19. The championship is scheduled for Saturday, May 22.
As the tournament selection committee noted a week ago: “All games are played at the higher seed or a neutral site decided by the higher seed.” Game times for the later rounds are to be determined.
