Hurts’ status for delayed game still a question mark

Another couple of days for quarterback Jalen Hurts to rehabilitate his left ankle isn’t such a bad thing for the Eagles.

The same goes for running backs Miles Sanders (ankle) and Jordan Howard (knee), who head coach Nick Sirianni said Friday were “ready to roll” for the upcoming game against the Washington Football Team. The game was rescheduled from Sunday to Tuesday at 7 p.m. due to a COVID outbreak on the WFTeam.

“(We’re) excited to have them both back on the field to lead our rushing attack,” Sirianni said.

Though Hurts didn’t look like he was all the way back compared to his teammates in the early part of practice open to the media at Lincoln Financial Field, Sirianni talked him up despite saying he would be listed as “questionable” for the game. That was before it was pushed back, however.

“I feel pretty confident and feel really good about where he is at right now,” Sirianni said. “The sooner you know the better, but that’s not always realistic. Sometimes you have to wait it out and sometimes you don’t have that liberty and you’re at the liberty of the ankle, the liberty of the player and how he feels, and what the trainers and the doctors and strength staff are telling you, too. Again, (we) feel hopeful with where Jalen is and the way he practiced today and the way he worked out today, so I’m excited about where we are.”

Sirianni conceded that Hurts didn’t get all the first-team snaps, Gardner Minshew taking a share. Hurts’ total?

“He looked good in the workout he did beforehand, and he took a lot of reps today, yeah,” Sirianni said. “Normal Friday, which is full speed. Yep, full-speed Friday just like we did September, October, November, all the way through. So, it was a normal practice.”

Eagles fans attending the game Tuesday night at Lincoln Financial Field need to be ready as well. One of the “adjustments” for fans, which the team referenced in its statement Friday, will be the parking situation at the South Philly sports complex.

The Flyers are scheduled to host the Washington

Capitals Tuesday at 7 p.m., but that game date doesn’t seem rock solid, since the NHL has its own COVID outbreak issues right now.

All players practiced fully according to the injury report furnished Friday by the Eagles. That includes Hurts, Sanders and Howard.

Eagles wide receiver Quez Watkins could be available as well, although he hasn’t practiced this week as he’s on the team’s COVID list.

“Obviously, he’ll test, and if they say he’s ready to go, he’s ready to go,” Sirianni said. “If not, he hasn’t been here all week, hasn’t practiced all week, so that’s always into discussion as well. We’ll wait to see what the tests say and make a decision from there.”
