Rutgers’ Glatz named First Team All-American
The honors continue to come in for the Rutgers University field hockey team as Gianna Glatz and Katie Larmour were recognized with All-America honors.
Glatz was a first team selection and Larmour a second team honoree.
Glatz earns her third career All-America recognition and marks the second straight season that she was named a First Team All-America.
She was one of just two goalkeepers on the first team. She is the first player in Rutgers’ history to be twice named a First Team All-America and the first three-time All-America performer for RU since Andschana Mendes in 1999-2001.
Glatz set statistical bests with a 0.93 goals-against-average and .796 save percentage this season.
She started 90 games over five years in goal, playing nearly 5700 minutes in the goal and posting a 1.40 goals-against-average (fourth all-time at RU). The former Shawnee High star had a lifetime .749 save percentage with 22 shutouts while posting a career record of 57-33.
Larmour earned All-America recognition for the second straight year after being named First Team All-America last season.
This marks the third straight season that RU had multiple All-America players. Prior to 2019, there had not been multiple Scarlet Knights named All-America in the same season since 1986.
Rutgers Staff Honored
Following a historic season for the Rutgers field hockey program, the coaching staff was recognized with a well-deserved honor as the NFHCA awarded Rutgers with the Mid-Atlantic Region Coach Staff of the Year award.
Rutgers’ staff featured head coach Meredith Civico alongside her assistants Maddy Sposito, Ajai Dhadwal and Joey Civico. 2017 and has done a tremendous job in building the program to reach new heights.
With the leadership of the group this season, the Scarlet Knights set program records this past season for wins (19), ranked wins (13), top-10 win (six).
Rutgers won the Big Ten Tournament
Championship for the first time, capturing three wins in four days on its home field. The victory marked the first Big Ten Tournament championship for any Rutgers athletics program. Additionally, during the tournament Meredith Civico claimed her 100th career victory as head coach.
Albanese Part of Top Division III Staff
Johns Hopkins, which reached the NCAA Division III championship game for the first time in program history, was named the NFHCA Region V Coaching Staff of the Year.
The Blue Jays won 22 straight games in advancing to the NCAA finals before falling to Middlebury.
James Albanese, a Hun graduate, joined the Hopkins staff in March after coaching with the Princeton Field Hockey Club, Holy Cross and at Hun.
A UMass graduate, he played on the 2019 and 2020 US Men’s Indoor National Teams as well as the East Coast High Performance Team. He has USA Field Hockey Level 1 Coach and Umpire certifications.
He was also selected to play with the Senior U.S. Men’s National Indoor Team,
Local’s Named to USAFH Men’s National Indoor Team
Several men’s field hockey players from this area have been named to the 2021-22 Junior U.S. Men’s National Indoor Hockey Team.
Those on the national team include, Kiet Maloney (Pennington), Alex Beauduin (Princeton), Isahq Inayat (Princeton) and James Polashock (Hainesport) are the local players chosen to play.
“We understand that our success internationally hinges on the development of our juniors and it’s exciting to see the pool of raw talent we have to work with this season as we look to develop the next generation,” said Jason Mulder, the Senior USNMT coach in a release.
Mid-Atlantic Prep League All-League
