Delaware Valley coasts, captures home tourney title

BAPTISTOWN » Armed with a lot of young talent, the Delaware Valley High School wrestling team stormed to the title of its own season-opening Wendy Pandy-Leh Tournament on Saturday.

Delaware Valley, which will wrestle at Hopewell Valley Tuesday, easily won the title with 239.5 points. Williamstown was second and Cherokee was third.

DelVal champs included Owen Kucharski (106), Jake Taylor (113), Sam Kirkpatrick (132) and Noah Sheeley (165).

SOUTHERN TOURNEY

MANAHAWKIN » Wrestling without four starters, Hopewell Valley came in 17th in this loaded-up event. Host Southern won with 254 points, followed by Delsea (202.5) and Mt. Olive. Allen Lopez (126) and Sam Ronollo (190) did the best of the Hopewell wrestlers by finishing tied for fifth.

CLIFTON TOURNEY

CLIFTON » Princeton had some good moments, including a firstplace showing by Aaron Munford in the 157-pound final.

Among those finishing second for the Little Tigers were Tyler Ehee (126) and Matt Ellsworth (175).

TCNJ PRIDE TOURNEY

In a tournament held on Friday, Robbinsville got a first place perfor- mance from lightweight Anthony Viscido and David Kanner. Viscido beat Ethan Kerlin of West Essex Regional in his final by the score of 5-3 and Kanner was a 9-2 winner over Aidan Ott of Lacey Township in his championship match. In other results, Robbinsville’s Giacomo Bottoni and Cole Cifrodelli each came in fourth.

HAMMONTON TOURNEY

HAMMONTON » Hightstown finished a very respectable fourth in a competition won by West Deptford. Seneca was second and Delran was sixth.

Finishing first for Hightstown were heavyweight Brenden Hansen and 215-pounder Chris Stavrou. Both pinned their way through the tournament.

Taking second for the Rams were Isaiah Thornton (157) and Liam O’Donnell (165).
