The Wagner College baseball team will call Trenton home for a handful of games this season.

Head coach Craig Noto announced a 52-game schedule that will bring the Seahawks south from Staten Island to New Jersey’s capital city for eight ‘home’ games at Trenton Thunder Ballpark.

Wagner is scheduled to play non-conference games against Saint Peter’s (April 5) and St. John’s (May 17) and Northeast Conference series’ against Sacred Heart (April 8-10) and Fairleigh Dickinson (April 2224) in Trenton. The team’s other 12 home games will be at Lakewood’s FirstEnergy Stadium.

“This year’s schedule was designed to challenge us every day,” Noto said. “Our non-conference slate consists of teams from nine different conferences all of which contend on a yearly basis to make a run to Omaha. We wanted to put our players in a position where they are challenged by programs we will see in the Regionals and beyond as well as navigating through a tough Northeast Conference schedule. This will give our team an opportunity to play against some great competition from start to finish, as we prepare to make a run at competing for a National Championship.”

The Seahawks went 11-25 overall and 8-22 in the NEC last season. The NEC Tournament is slated for May 2629 at Dodd Stadium in Norwich, Conn.

Wagner will be familiar to area baseball fans as the school that produced former Thunder outfielder Ben Ruta. This season’s team features freshman pitcher Dan Merkel, a former CVC standout at Allentown High.

The Thunder, meanwhile, will take part in the the MLB Draft League. That season, which has

been expanded to 80 games, is scheduled to begin on

June 2. The Thunder’s home opener is on June 7.
