There’s no need to introduce the players in the Mercer County Tournament semifinal between No. 3 Princeton and No. 2 Allentown; these two teams know each other very well.

Besides being perennial MCT title contenders, it was just two weeks ago they battled into overtime before the Tigers (12-4) came away with 10-9 win over the Redbirds (11-4).

“The girls are really excited to play Allentown again,” said Tigers Katie Federico. “The last game was such a battle and it was amazing lacrosse from both teams. It is a fun rivalry.”

The fun starts at 6 p.m. after the semifinal game set for 4 p.m. between No. 1 Lawrenceville and No. 4 Notre Dame.

Both games are being played on the turf at Allentown.

“We are excited for the semifinals,” said Allentown coach Jen Chiusano, after defeating Robbinsville in the quarters. “If we can play like we have been I really confident in what we can do.”

Both teams have shown throughout the regular season the ability to control tempo and force mistakes and both have a very strong attack.

The game will feature two of the top three scorers in the area in Princeton’s Kate Becker with 73 goals and the Redbirds Jolee Roth with 56 tallies.

“The key to winning this game will be execution and clear communication on our end,” said Federico. “Every member of our team contributed on the field in our win against PDS and the same thing will need to happen against Allentown. They are a strong pressure team so maintaining our composure will be crucial. “

The Tigers, who have won four of the last five, will rely on Grace Rebak (14 goals and 35 assists) to be the calming factor. Riley Devlin brings 51 goals to the field and the Princeton defense is anchored by Sarah Glenn and Gigi Peloso in the goal.

“This team has faced a lot of challenges with injuries this season and yet, each player has come through in the tough games,” said Federico. “We have been down in games and fought to come back and win. There is no giving up with this team. They are all heart.”

That desire is matched by the Redbirds, who despite having split the last

eight games are playing very impressive lacrosse. The four losses for Allentown are by a total of eight goals.

“We can’t wait for the semifinals,” said sophomore Chloe Conti. “We have a lot of motivation.”

Conti, who is just a sophomore, has 33 goals and a team high 42 assists.

She is perpetual motion battling for draw controls and ground balls all over the field.

Abby von Harten has been playing well on the attack with 29 goals and freshman Delaney Nolan has 24 goals.

Reagan Stewart has been strong in. the cage with Isabella Magliozzo, Megan Tanner, Natalie Ruglio and Ava Mintchwarner playing strong in front of the cage.

The first meeting could be classified the game of the year and this one has even more at stake.
