CVC wrestlers well represented in Region 6 seedings

The seeding and pairings were released on Tuesday for this weekend’s Region 6 tournament at Jackson Liberty High School and it wasn’t difficult to spot the three weights where Colonial Valley Conference wrestlers have the best chance to make a major impact.

The highest seed for a CVC wrestler went to Ewing’s Collin Elam. A junior with a record of 31-2, Elam was seeded No. 2 and on Friday night will face the winner of the opening-round bout between Steinert’s No. 7 Louis Bilardo (23-4) and Jackson Liberty’s Kareem Fayed. Elam pinned Bilardo in the third-place match at the Mercer County Tournament.

The CVC is well represented overall at 215 because it also includes Notre Dame’s Will Renda and Allentown’s No. 6 Pasquale Stanco, who was this year’s MCT champion.

Keeping in mind the top four in each weight class will advance to the state tournament the following week in Atlantic City, CVC wrestlers are also in a good spot at 175 pounds where Robbinsville’s district champion Richard Esterly (31-2) is seeded third and Hamilton’s Dontae Bryan (24-4) is fourth.

The CVC is also very much in the medal hunt at 215 where Hamilton sophomore and MCT champion Jacob Howland (26-1) got the No. 4 seed.

Howland will open against Ewing’s Kenneth Waugh in a weight that also includes Notre Dame’s MCT runner-up Nick Csillan. Howland’s only loss this year was by the score of 2-1 against Jackson Liberty’s Luis Valente in last week’s District 21 final.

The other two CVC district champs at Region 6 are Allentown’s Charles Case (34-1 at 113) and Notre Dame’s Nick Franzen (36-3 at 157). Both are seeded fifth along with Robbinsville’s Anthony Viscido (126).

The highest seed for a Northern Burlington wrestler went to Galiano Zeppadoro, who is in the third spot at 120. There are some real hammers in this tourney, including Brick Memorial’s Anthony Santaniello and Harvey Ludington.

Santaniello was second in the state last year and Ludington was first.
