Tigers men’s lax falls to Terps in semifinal rematch

PRINCETON >> The Princeton men’s lacrosse team may have been looking forward to its Final Four rematch against Maryland, but Matt Madalon’s side found out it has work to do if ends up playing the defending national champion again.

Daniel Maltz scored four goals, Jack Koras added three and the sixth-ranked Terrapins used a third-quarter run to hand the fourth-ranked Tigers an 11-5 setback on Saturday afternoon at Sherrerd Field at Class of 52 Stadium.

Maryland (3-1) out-scored Princeton (21), 7-1, in the third quarter. Maltz and Koras combined for the final four scores of the frame to put Maryland up, 9-2.

Coulter Mackesy led the Tigers with three goals.

RUTGERS 10, LOYLA 6 PISCATAWAY >>

Dante Kulas and Shane Knobloch scored three goals each and the 12thranked Scarlet Knights (3-1) knocked off the fifth-ranked Greyhounds (2-1).

Rutgers broke open a 4-all game with a 5-0 run in the third quarter capped off by a Jack Aimone goal with 4:13 remaining in the period.

Women’s Lacrosse

PRINCETON 17, TEMPLE 9 PHILADELPH­IA >> McKenzie Blake caged six goals and the 17th-ranked Tigers (1-1) gave coach Jenn Cook her first career win by beating the Owls (3-2).

Princeton jumped out to a 4-0 lead and never looked back. Sophie Whiteway added three goals, while Kari Buonanno, Kate Mulham and Ellie Mueller had two apiece.

ARMY 10, RUTGERS 5 WEST POINT, N.Y. >>

Cassidy Spilis scored four times for the ninth-ranked Scarlet nights (3-1), but they were doomed by a poor first quarter in which the host Black Knights (4-0) sprinted out to a 5-0 lead.

Baseball OKLAHOMA 7, RIDER 2 NORMAN, OKLA. >>

The Sooners (3-4) chased Broncs starter Frank Doelling after 2.2 innings to win the middle game of a threegame set.

After winning the opener, 6-3, Rider (42) scored first on Scott Shaw’s RBI single in the third inning.

Easton Carmichael had a pair of hits and drove in three for Oklahoma. The rubber game is Sunday afternoon.

BALL STATE 5, RUTGERS 4 CHARLESTON, S.C. >>

Adam Tellier hit a sole home run in the bottom of the eighth to give the Cardinals (3-3) a victory over the Scarlet Knights (2-3) at the Swing & Swine Classic.

Rutgers led, 4-1, after an RBI double by Jordan Sweeney in the fourth and a RBI ground out by Ryan Lasko in the sixth.
