CCABC set to recognize Women’s History Month and more

On Saturday, the Capital City Area Black Caucus will host its third meeting of the year at the Sanctuary of the Greater Mt. Zion AME Church, 42 Pennington Avenue. The conference will honor Women’s history month with a panel of Black women leaders discussing issues that affect African American women.

Panelists include Trenton City Council President Teska Frisby, Former Trenton

City Councilwoman Annette Lartigue, AKA Sorority President Adrienne King, Rider College Vice President of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion & Chief Diversity Officer Brenda Lawrence, Tennille McCoy, Co-Founder, Black Women’s Collective and Candidate for NJ Assembly, Trenton Public Schools, Board of Education Member Addie Daniels Lane and Salvation and Social Justice Policy Director, Raquel Romans-Henry. Wives of Trenton area church ministries will also be recognized by the CCABC.

In addition to the prolific women being highlighted, multiple Mercer County area high school sports teams will be spotlighted.

The 2023 Group III NJ Girls State Basketball Champions and Mercer County Champions — Ewing High School Girls Basketball Team(30-3), the 2023 Group IV Boys NJ State Sectional Champions and Mercer County Champions — Trenton High School Boys Team(29-2), the 2023 Group

III Boys NJ State Sectional Champions — Nottingham High School(22-9) and the 2023 Mercer County and Colonial Valley Tack Team Champions — Trenton High School Boys Indoor Track Team will all be celebrated for their successful seasons.

There will also be remarks from Trenton and Mercer County Elected Officials and a special “Thank You Trenton and Mercer County” acknowledgment from NJ Assemblyman Dan Benson

According to a statement sent to the Trentonian, Mercer County Commissioner Sam Frisby, “This will be one of the most important meetings CCABC has ever had. The opportunity to recognize women this month is really important and the fact that our Women’s Leadership Panel features some of the brightest and most thoughtful women leaders in the county is big. The acknowledgment of the “unsung sheros” in our community, the First Ladies of The Church, is long overdue. Further, the recognition of our area high school sports team and their success this winter season is very purposeful as well as a good opportunity for us as adults to demonstrate our belief in our young people. These student-athletes are role models in their community as well as for their fellow students and CCABC would be remiss if we didn’t recognize the time they put into their sport and their school, their hard work and their accomplishments.”
