Princeton men’s lax drops Ivy opener to Cornell

PRINCETON >> The Princeton men’s lacrosse team lost its Ivy League opener to Cornell, 15-14, when the Big Red’s Matt Dooley scored the game-winner with 1.6 seconds left on Sunday afternoon.

Dooley, a defender, scooped up a loose ball and raced down the field to cage his first goal of the season and give 15th-ranked Cornell (4-2, 1-0) an early leg up in the league over the 13thranked Tigers (4-3, 0-1).

The Big Red finished the game on a 3-0 run over the final 8:12 after Princeton went up by two on Sean Cameron’s goal with 8:35 remaining.

Tucker Wade led the Tigers with four goals and Chad Palumbo and Sean Cameron had three each.

Hugh Kelleher and Ryan Goldstein had three goals each for Cornell. Goldstein tied the game at 14-all with 5:20 left.

Women’s Lacrosse

YALE 14, RUTGERS 8 PISCATAWAY >>

Sky Carrasquil­lo and Jenna Collignon combined for seven goals and the 16th-ranked Bulldogs (7-0) remained unbeaten with an easy victory over the Scarlet Knights (54). Victoria Goldrick had two goals for Rutgers.

Baseball

ST. JOHN’S 13, RIDER 1 NEW YORK >>

The Broncs (213) lost their fourth straight game as the pitching was torched for double-digit runs in all three games of the series by the Red Storm (13-14). Luke Lesch’s RBI single in the first inning got Rider on the board first, but St. John’s knocked out starter Brian Young in the third inning on its way to a sweep.

RUTGERS 14, DELAWARE 3 NEWARK, DEL. >>

The Scarlet Knights (13-6) completed a sweep of the Blue Hens (8-10) in a series in which they averaged 18.6 runs per game.
