Former ND standout Barrett off to strong start at Drew

Lizzy Barrett is coming off a season in which she was a Second Team All-Landmark Conference selection.

The former Notre Dame High standout is looking to go one better as a senior.

Barrett was named the Landmark Conference Offensive Athlete of the Week after accumulati­ng 13 goals and five assists in a 2-0 week for the Drew University women’s lacrosse team.

The Cranford native opened the week by scoring a career-high seven goals and handing out three assists to go with three draw controls in a 17-9 victory at Arcadia University. She followed up with six goals, two assists, and four draw controls as Drew defeated FDU-Florham, 26-15, and set the team record for goals in a game.

Barrett has scored in all seven games this season for 4-3 Drew and has 30 goals and 11 assists. She has 137 career goals and 60 assists in 47 games.

Ruta Patriot Player of the Week

Sam Ruta (Pennsbury) was named the Patriot League Player of the Week after batting .429 with three home runs, four RBIs and five walks as West Point split a fourgame series against Georgia State.

The Patriot League Preseason Player of the Year went 4-for-4 with two solo home runs and a double in the Black Knights’ 13-8 victory over the Panthers in game one of Sunday’s doublehead­er.

He went 1-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and two walks in a 12-11 loss against Georgia State on Saturday.

Edwards Earns MAC Honor

Matt Edwards (Neshaminy) batted .500 for Alvernia through five games during Alvernia’s spring training trip to Florida.

He had ten hits — including a double and home run — eight RBIs, and four runs scored through the final five games.

Edwards hit a walk-off double for Alvernia in the extra-inning win. Edwards capped off the week going 3-for-3 with three RBIs against Rockford on Friday.

Nitti, Bresnan Power Stockton

Jordan Nitti (Steinert) had four hits, including two doubles, and three RBI for Stockton in three games last week.

Evan Bresnan (Steinert) had three hits and three RBI in three games for Stockton.

Baseball: Dylan Palmer (Notre Dame) leads Hofstra with a .437 average and he has 11 steals. …Cole Palmeri (Hun) collected his 100th career hit Saturday against Endicott. Men’s Lacrosse: Calvin Caputo (Princeton Day) totaled six goals and two assists in a 1-1 week for Williams. The senior totaled three goals and two assists, including assisting the game-winning tally with 10 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, to lift Williams to a 15-14 win at Bates on Saturday. Men’s Squash: Jackson Rho (Hun) was named to the NESCAC All-Sportsmans­hip team from Bowdoin. …Asher Leavy (Shipley School/Princeton resident) was named to the NESCAC All-Academic team from Williams.

Men’s Swimming and Diving : Andrew Yuen (Mercersbur­g/Lawrencevi­lle resident) was named to the NESCAC All-Academic team from Amherst. Softball: Rachel Carney (Notre Dame) was 1-for-3 with an RBI for Colgate in a win over Niagara. …Allie Bridgman (Hightstown) has three home runs and 18 RBI for Fairfield. …Priyanka Kaul (WW-P South) is batting .267 for Harvard. …Chelsea Manto (Robbinsvil­le) is leading Hofstra with a .339 average and 11 stolen bases. …Ashley Giampolo (Notre Dame) is batting .283 for Siena. …Jane Lloyd (Pennsbury) was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI for Dickinson in a win over Sewanee. …Ainsley McClure (Pennsbury) pitched five innings and got the win for Franklin & Marshall over Salve Regina. …Bella Truelove (Steinert) was 2-for-4 for Kean in a win over McDaniel.
