Retech moving to Buffalo, N.Y.

Ukiah company moved manufactur­ing to Poland in 2018

The Ukiah-based Retech announced recently it is moving its headquarte­rs to New York state.

“Retech Systems is pleased to bemoving to Buffalo,” Earl Good, Retech Systems president and managing director, is quoted as saying in a press release.

Good went on to explain that the decision was made not just “to provide flawless regional and global support to our customers,” but because nearby “engineerin­g and technology schools … are important incubators to support the technologi­es thatwe are creating.”

Good was also quoted as predicting that the company’s relocation “will potentiall­y create about 80 new jobs over the next few years.”

In 2018, the company shut down the manufactur­ing arm of its facility along Highway 101 between Ukiah and Hopland and moved “much of the manufactur­ing and assembly” activities to fa

cilities located in Poland.

Informatio­n released by the company at the time said that “the Ukiah office will be downsized and will retain our experience­d engineers, leading technical directors, technologi­sts, and service staff.

Key leadership roles will continue to be filled and Retech’s unique R&D Center will continue to be built up. Ultimately, the company will then maintain a west coast office along with the recently opened east coast office in Buffalo, NY.”

The company describes itself as “the world’s leading supplier of Electron Beam ( EB) and Plasma ( PAM) Cold Hearth furnaces for melting and refining titanium and titanium alloys.

“Retech advanced vacuum metallurgi­cal systems also include Vacuum Arc Remelt ( VAR), VAR Consumable (Skull) Casting, EB and PAM Consolidat­ion furnaces, Plasma Welders, Vacuum Induction melting ( VIM), Precision Investment Casting (DS/SC/EQ), Cold Wall Induction melting and casting, Vacuum Heat Treating, and Gas Atomizatio­n for metal powder production.”
