Initiative launched to support fire department

Last week, Willits-based LEEF Organics, a CBD wellness company founded in 2015, announced the “Little Lake Fire Department Give Back Initiative” to help support the ongoing efforts of the Little Lake Fire Protection District (LLF) as they continue to protect and serve the local community, especially those affected by the August 2020 fires.

“The LEEF headquarters is located at the southern corridor of the emerald triangle and as a company, LEEF is committed to giving back in every way they can to their community,” said a press release. The company is looking to provide assistance to the first responders who are “supporting and protecting the communities dev

astated by the recent fires.” According to Chief Operating Officer Emily Heitman, 100 percent of the products sales from the LEEF website, leeforganics.com, will be donated to LLF. The Initiative went into effect Sept. 11 and will continue until further notice.

“The service providers in the City of Willits have been supportive of our business since inception. We have watched them get spread thin over the years and these recent fires in Northern California have not helped. We hope our give back program will bring the department financial relief in a time of need. I believe starting at the local level is the best way to see an immediate impact when supporting our community. Thanks to the Willits fire department for always looking out for us,” Micah Anderson, Chief Executive Officer and Founder.

LLF Chief Wilkes said it was a nice surprise when LEEF announced the new Initiative. “They’ve been a really good partner with us… very cooperative and transparent. They’ve complied completely with any requests of the fire department, and they’ve gone above and beyond with the safety plan.” Wilkes added that through the process of establishing the company’s facilities and completing the necessary safety requirements needed for a hi-tech laboratory, the company had become aware of the financial limitations of a volunteer fire department. “I think it raised some awareness,” said Wilkes.

Heitman explained that LEEF is presenting the public with a two-pronged approach, the main offering being the Initiative to support LLF, and a second prong to support local cannabis farmers. “LEEF has also opened their doors to those in the surrounding areas in need of safe and secured storage,” according to the press release. Heitman expanded, saying all local farms are welcome to store product free of charge at LEEF’S headquarters on N. Lenore Avenue in Willits. She said the LEEF farm up near Brooktrails had to be evacuated during the Oak Fire and the company hopes to support other farms that were similarly affected.
