County hosts outbreak testing

1,030 cases, 21 deaths as of Thursday

In response to an outbreak of Covid-19 discovered late last month in the Point Arena area, Mendocino County Public health officials are hosting more free testing on the South Coast today.

In a press release Oct. 8, county officials reported that nine cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in the South Coast region of Mendocino County that includes Point Arena and Manchester.

“All cases have been contacted for initial investigat­ion and participat­ed in contact tracing to identify close contacts, and the majority of the cases have been released from isolation as of this date,” the release stated.

The county’s public health office reports that it is collaborat­ing with the Manchester Band of Pomo Indians of the Manchester Rancheria, RCMS, California Rural Indian Health Board, Inc. and AB Med Healthcare Solutions will be offering free COVID-19 testing this upcoming weekend, with an anonymous option available.

Testing sites include the following on Saturday, Oct. 10:

• 9:30 s.m. to 2 p.m., no sppointmen­t necesssry, st the Msnchester Point Arens Clinic st 10A Msmie Lsiws Rosd, Point Arens, testing conducted by AB Med.

• From 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., by sppointmen­t only, st the RCMS Guslsls Clinic st 46900Ocesn Drive, Guslsls. Veterans Hall at 451 School Street, Point Arena, with testing conducted by the county.

The Public Health Office is encouragin­g all people to get tested who “has come into close contact with anyone outside of your immediate household, including inside or outside gatherings, large or small, and confined spaces such as vehicles or workspaces.”

Also, they suggest that anyone who “works with the public, especially in settings where masks are not always used by either customers or employees, and where coworkers take breaks and eat together. If you or anyone around you has had flu-like symptoms such as cough, sore throat, diarrhea, fever or etc., please isolate yourself, and call your healthcare provider for a test and evaluation.”

County officials add that more than “400 individual­s have been tested since the initial outbreak of Sept. 23, and no new positive tests have been identified for Mendocino County residents.”

Also on Thursday, the county reported five new cases of Covid-19 for a total of 1,030. As of Oct. 8, seven people with the virus were hospitaliz­ed and 21 people have died from it.
