Ukiah man arrested on suspicion of domestic violence, weapons violations

A 34-year-old Ukiah man was arrested earlier this month on suspicion of domestic violence and weapons violations, following an assault on a pregnant woman in the 1700 block of Talmage Road, the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office reported in a press release Monday.

On Oct. 3, at 11:45 p.m., deputies were dispatched to Adventist Health Ukiah Valley in regard to an assault victim being treated at the hospital. They interviewe­d a 42-year- old woman and learned she had allegedly been physically assaulted by Leonel Valenzuela. The couple were reportedly involved in a romantic relationsh­ip.

The woman received visible injuries during the assault, and deputies also learned that Valenzuela had held her against her will. They later located Valenzuela at his residence and arrested him without incident. Valenzuela was on formal probation out of Mendocino County. A probation search of Valenzuela’s residence revealed a short barreled assault weapon.

The deputies continued their investigat­ion and learned that Valenzuela was prohibited from possessing/ owning a firearm.

The deputies developed probable cause to believe Valenzuela had committed the crimes of 273.5 PC ( Domestic Violence Battery), 33215 PC ( Possession of Short Barrel Rifle), 30605(a) PC ( Possession of Assault Rifle), 29800(a) (1) PC ( Felon/addict Possession Firearm), 1203.2 PC ( Violation of Probation) and 236 PC (False Imprisonme­nt).

Valenzuela was booked into the Mendocino Count y Jail, where he was to be held in lieu of $25,000 bail.
