A year of good news from the Eileen Hawthorne Fund

- Contributed

FORT SRAGG » This has been a year of good news and good works for the Eileen Hawthorne Fund. Through everyone has experienced difficulties in 2020, for EHF, this year has been an opportunity to enlarge its services to those in need in the Fort Bragg community and beyond. The Eileen Hawthorne Fund for Animals has been helping animals on the Mendocino Coast since 1984.

This year, EHF:

• Doubled the amount of cat food EHF has given to the Food Bank in response to calls requesting more cat food during the COVID-19 crisis.

• Donated to Humane Society International to help animals affected by the firestorms in Australia.

• Donated to the Mendocino Humane Society after financial hardship due to loss of income from the closing of the Ark Thrift Store.

• Donated cat and dog food supplies to the Humane Society for Inland Mendocino when they received an influx of puppies and kittens.

• Gave spay/neuter vouchers and co-pays to people in the community during World Spay Month in February and extended these after the COVID-19 outbreak created a need for more help.

The Eileen Hawthorne Fund is a volunteer organization that gives financial help in several, animal-related areas for people in financial need.

The Fund offers vouchers for spay and neuter procedures, plus financial assistance with veterinary bills for both dogs and cats to assist people with low incomes.

It also provides cat food for the community through the Fort Bragg Food Bank and to local volunteers who assist with cat colonies.
