Roundabout up for discussion
‘Mini-roundabouts’ now being proposed
At its virtual meeting today, the Ukiah City Council will discuss modifying plans for a proposed roundabout at Low Gap Road and North Bush Street.
According to the staff report prepared for the March 3 meeting, staff note “the allotment of design funds available for this project is inadequate,” but that also “the traditional roundabout is not likely a solution for this intersection.”
Therefore, staff are proposing other solutions called ““miniroundabouts,” which are described as “utilizing more paint and less concrete (and) a less expensive solution.” If this option is chosen, staff note, the project costs could be covered by the grant funding allocated for the project.
“These funding changes are possible but require action by the California Transportation Commission (CTC), (and) an application needs to be filed immediately for these changes (and staff seeks) City Council authorization to submit an application to the CTC for modification of funding related to the proposed project.”
Also at the March 3 meeting, the City Council is scheduled to hear an appeal by Ruth Van Antwerp of the livestock permit granted to her neighbor on North Oak Street to keep two goats as pets. When the city granted the permit last year, Van Antwerp appealed the decision, but the permit was upheld by a Hearing Officer in January.
Van Antwerp is now appealing the permit to the Ukiah City Council, which will hold a public hearing scheduled for 6:15 p.m. March 3. To attend this meeting, register here: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/rt/9199312935703156493
Also today, the City Council will hold a special meeting at 4 p.m. to discuss its Strategic Plan, and receive a Mid-year Departmental Budget and Objectives Progress Review.
