Good fishing reports are coming from Clear Lake

- Don Moir Thanks for reading and remember to keep it reel — Don = 4REEL Fishin’

Good day, my fellow anglers. I have been thinking about how wonderful it is to have the ability to escape all the garbage in today’s world on a lake. Even if it is just for a few hours. There is just something special about being on the water. You blast across the lake to one of your favorite fishing holes. Drop the trolling motor and make your first cast, and, it happens, exhale.

I know for some the same exhale applies to golf, soaking in a hot tub, bike riding and hiking. Just getting away from it all, outside in nature is where it is at. Mentally, I can tell when it has been too long since Teresa and I have gone fishin’. My mind tells me when it is time for our “Calgon Take Me Away” escape. Ahhhh. Yup, we are all truly blessed! Just remember to think that the glass is half full.

2021 SALMON Fishing Season OUTLOOK — The 2021 Salmon Fishing Season is not looking good. Many local rivers have not had the salmon return numbers like years past. Several experts are saying this year is not going to be a good one. The low flow rates our local rivers have had due to the drought along with unusually high water temperatures off of the Pacific Coast has been a double whammy. Just too much against the salmon to have a bounce back year.

Clear Lake

There are nothing but good fishin’ reports coming from our awesome fishery over the mountain. WOW! Many anglers are hooking into bass weighing 5 to 7 pounds! The hitch (one of the bass’ favorite treats) bait fish are schooling up and starting to think about moving into the creeks to spawn, and the big bass are following them. Keep moving until you find them. Find the bait fish, you have found the bass. On blue bird days, you find ‘um in 10-12 feet of water.

Four to six inch paddle tailed swim baits, chatter baits, drop-shottin’, texas and carolina rigged crawlbaits have been working well. Also some anglers have been catching bass on spinnerbaits under and around docks when the wind picks up.

Lake Sonoma

The bass fishing action has begun to pick up on Lake Sonoma. The best areas to fish are the creek arms at the north end of the lake and the marina area. Pitchin’ crawdad colored jigs or watermelon candy colored brushhogs have been producing bass. Concentrate on fallen timber and/or rocks. Also try a chartreuse or white colored spinnerbait in and around the submerged trees.

Blue Lakes

The upper Blue Lake is scheduled to receive yet another trout plant this week. The trout fishing has been really good lately. Many limits have been caught from the shore and docks. Several trout have weighed two and three pounds! The hot bait is white Power Bait, and the best time to fish is during the morning hours.

Hey readers! I would love to include your fishing pictures in the weekly column. Please e-mail your photos to go4reelfishin@pacific.net.

Remember to include your name, the weight or length and where your fish and where it was caught. I will do my best to get you in.
