Sundays in the Park concert draws a crowd

- By Jody Martinez udjjm@ukiahdj.com

A large crowd gathered in Todd Grove Park Sunday evening to enjoy this summer’s first Sundays in the Park concert, featuring

Charley Crockett performing Americana Country music with Jesse Daniel.

Local favorite Johnny Young, a country musician from Willits/laytonville who tours extensively, also performed.

The 6 p.m. concert followed a day of 109-degree heat in Ukiah, but by the time the music started the temperature was beginning to ease a bit.

Sundays in the Park concerts, a Ukiah tradition, were canceled last year because of the Covid-19 pandemic, so Sunday’s concert was the first since 2019.

This year’s concert lineup includes several bands that had been scheduled to perform in 2020, but were unable to do so due to the pandemic, and agreed to return this year.

There will be three more Sundays in the Park concerts this summer, all of them in Todd Grove Park beginning at 6 p.m., and featuring:

• July 25: Hot Buttered Rum, progressive bluegrass folk

• Aug. 1: Thrive, pop party reggae with Rising Signs

• Aug. 15: Diggin Dirt, high energy funk

Concert etiquette

• No pets allowed

• Personal barbecues are allowed only at the picnic table areas

• High-back chairs are allowed only along the perimeter of the event

• No smoking is allowed within the main event area The free Sundays in the Park concerts are presented by the City of Ukiah, with major underwriting and substantial funding by numerous community businesses and organizations.
