Mendocino Film Festival adds yearround programmin­g

The Mendocino Film Festival has added yearround programmin­g, beginning this month, in addition to scheduling the 15th Annual Mendocino Film Festival for June 2-5, 2022.

“The Mendocino Film Festival, now more than ever before, recognizes the need for community events, to bring people together and celebrate shared culture,” a press release stated.

The first event, “Cinema in the Redwoods,” will feature “Stand By Me” (1986), in partnershi­p with Fort Bragg’s historic Skunk Train, Aug. 20 & 21, departing at 6:30 p.m. Tickets ($75 for adults, $59 for kids) will include a roundtrip train ticket from the Skunk Train Depot to Glen Blair Junction, deep in the forest, the film screening experience, a bucket of bottomless popcorn, and a drink token to be redeemed at the bar. Concession­s and a full bar will also be available.

In September, two separate films will be screened outdoors at Friendship Park, a quaint baseball field in Mendocino Village; on Sept. 24, “Young Frankenste­in” (1974) and Sept. 25, “A League of Their Own” (1992). Both films will start at 7:30 p.m., Doors will open at 7 p.m. Locally sourced snacks will be available to purchase, along with popcorn. Tickets will be $10 for adults and $5 for children.

The Mendocino Film Festival has also joined forces with Fort Bragg’s Coast Cinemas for the return of the “Classic Film Series.” The first Wednesday of the month, beginning Oct. 6 and continuing through November and December, the festival will showcase movies that have stood the test of time with the intention of entertaini­ng, educating and all around delighting viewers in Mendocino County and beyond.
