LIVESTOCK AUCTION
On Friday, Aug. 6 the Redwood Empire Fair Online Junior Livestock Auction became accessible to all potential buyers through 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7. Local youth from 4-H chapters across the Mendocino County participated in the auction, including Willits, Laytonville, Covelo, Fort Bragg, Boonville, and Ukiah.
After going virtual in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many of the participants were familiar with the online platform. Just as they did last year, the Redwood Empire Fair board of directors voted to postpone an in-person fair until next year because of the continuing pandemic and recent surge in COVID-19 cases throughout the county and state.
This year fair animals
were presented online either through photos or videos, and information given by the participant. When the auction closed Saturday night, money raised was dispersed to the youth who spent time and money raising the animal.
