Notes from the Club

With active kids at the Club every weekday, we are grateful for donations of all kinds — art supplies, school supplies, garden supplies, games and crafts. We’d like to send our heartfelt thanks to David & Wendy Cram for bringing in several boxes of dried flowers, ribbons and wreath making

supplies in memory of Beth Thompson.

An interview with a BGCU parent

Here at Boys & Girls Club, I am surrounded by an amazing team. So much so that it is easy to take for granted all the fruit we bear.

Yet, it is not as simple as I allow myself to believe. Caitlin Paul, a parent of the BGCU, gave me a gentle reminder of just how lucky I am as a Club staff member to be a part of the bigger picture. I sat with Caitlin recently and discussed the various programs offered at the Club and how they impact our members. They gain a stronger sense of self-trust and can therefore see their world through a new perspective and try new things. Every day, I see our members walk through our doors and take on new personas.

Caitlin was pleased to hear that her son, Kash, is always the first member to volunteer for new activities. “Over the summer, he woke up and was ready to be at BGCU, because he’s happy and comfortable here.” For Kash, BGCU is more than just a fun place, this is where he takes on leadership roles and steps into his own skin.

While lava lamps, art projects, and air hockey get our members through the doors, ultimately, our members choose to be here because of the environment staff creates and the bonds built with the staff and fellow members.
