The 60th annual Black Bart Parade will be happening this weekend at its traditional time of 11 a.m. Saturday in Downtown Redwood Valley.

Organizers say “This is 60 years of Diamonds, Denim and Dirt. Immediately following the parade at the Redwood Riders Arena Grounds will be a BBQ, awards presentation and live music.”

East Road will be closed for two hours today for the parade (Road B-E Saturday 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.) and in a post to the community on Thursday, Jessie Taaningsanchez wrote: “Please let folks know that aren't on Facebook about the road closure. The parade has been going on for 60 years! The Saturday before the 4th of July, some years the end of June and others the beginning of July. I'm glad to be back to some normalcy! It is not too late to enter!

“The barbecue is free to all that enter, and the public is welcome to make a donation for a plate of food. Live music by Severance, bring the family to downtown to enjoy the parade.

“I could use a few more people for road crew! Redwood Riders would like to thank the generous sponsors that are truly making this fun, free community event happen! You Know Who You Are and are truly appreciated!”

Also on Saturday, the Redwood Valley Grange will be hosting a fundraiser concert with Alice Dimicele, beginning at 4 p.m. Tickets are $20 and will be sold at the door. The Grange, which is at 8650 East Road, will also have food and refreshments for sale: A Thai noodle meal for $10-one, $15-two; as well as beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages.

Looking back through photos of Black Bart Parades of the past is always fun, and today we feature a few Ukiah Daily Journal images from the Black Bart Parade of 2005, which was also held on July 2 that year.
