Luke Andrews and band to perform at WCT

- By Steve Hellman

Progressive blues phenom Luke Andrews and his band Blue Luke come to the Willits Community Theatre on Saturday, March 25 at 7:30 p.m.

Think three-chord classic blues extended through runs of jazz improv, rock riffs and funk rhythms and you have the creative energy of Andrews' guitar along with his band's compelling sound. Andrews is backed by popular Mendocino County trumpeter Jim Dooley, Israeli-born drummer Roni Zadik, Michael Cantwell on keyboards and Derek Soderquist on bass.

As a producer, label-owner, composer and arranger for projects that have included reggae star Julian Marley's third album and hit single release, “Violence In The Streets,” Andrews brings quite the extended pedigree to his performances. He cites his blues-playing influences from Jimi Hendrix to Carlos Santana and Stevie Ray Vaughn, along with the improv styles of Miles Davis, John Mclaughlin and Jeff Beck.

For years Andrews has headlined shows across the United States, along with tours in Europe that have taken him from Ireland to Greece. His love of guitar started at age 12, and he released his first solo album at 18. The Dos Rios native since has established a production, recording and remix facility here in Northern California. “For me, I'm playing the guitar to tell a story in the tones and the sound,” Andrews says.

A frequent staple at Shanachie's Pub, local outdoor winery shows and other Nor-cal venues, Andrews brings his seasoned show for the first time to the WCT playhouse. Tickets are $20 and available online at www.wctperformingartscenter.org or at the door until sold out. Early ticket purchases are advised.
