There, but for the grace of…

-

To the Editor:

I cannot help wondering. as we approach the 200,000 loss of life mark, why not me and my loved ones? I am in the senior, at most risk group and I'm still here. Is it because I do not live in a large city, in crowded and condensed neighborhoods that exposes me more to Covid-19? Is it because I follow the CDC guidelines, wear a mask, social distance and avoid crowds? So far as I know, I am still here by: “There, but for grace of…” and I am responsibly caring about my fellow citizens.

What I do know is the lack of grace President Trump continually exhibits. Spouting one day it's OK to not wear a mask, and the next day you should wear a mask. He encourages his devoted supporters attending his rallies to be in crowded venues both outside and even in more dangerous venues indoors. His supporters are standing or sitting shoulder to shoulder, cheering loudly, while the air becomes infested with Covid-19. We see the majority of his supporters not wearing a mask. This makes them extremely vulnerable to contracting Covid-19, and then spreading the virus wherever they go. Not only to their loved ones, but other unaware individuals they come in contact with. President Trump literally ran out of a meeting when someone in the room sneezed. He protects himself while knowingly putting his most loyal supporters in harm's way. This pandemic has taken so many of our loved ones. I hope for the sake of his supporters, they come to the understanding that this president is using their loyalty for “the grace of Trump” to win his second term without concern for anyone's health or life. “There, but for the grace of... “we're taught we should, out of love, look out for one another.
