October’s outstanding students recognized
Tuolumne County schools have announced Students of the Month for October:
Isaiah Fabela, seventh grade, Belleview Elementary — Isaiah, the son of Casandra Miller, of Sonora, “is consistently involved at school and has been a member of our Student Council for the last two years,” said his teachers. “He always arrives at school with a positive attitude, even during these trying times. He cares very much about his schoolwork and does his very best in each and every subject. He is a dedicated participant in class and is always willing to lend a helping hand. Isaiah is especially polite and respectful. Students always seek Isaiah out as a partner on a project or as a team member. He is a great friend and a stellar student. As his seventh grade teachers, we are very pleased to have the opportunity to name Isaiah Fabela our Student of the Month.”
Marissa Doescher, sixth grade, Chinese Camp Science Academy — “In a time when learning has been incredibly challenging, Marissa has been rock solid in her determination to make education a priority,” said teacher Sheri Betz. “Starting last spring when we switched over to distance learning using our computers, Marissa didn’t miss a beat while figuring out all the new technology on multiple platforms. I loved how it didn’t matter where she was as she worked on her computer, be it at home or in her mom’s dance studio surrounded by costumes, her commitment to getting the work done never wavered. Marissa is also a passionate scientist and loves doing experiments and engineering challenges at our STEM based school. Even though we can’t do many of the normal hands-on science activities during this season, her enthusiasm hasn’t diminished. I love it when she cheers after I announce our science topic. Her positive energy is contagious and motivating. Her never ending wit and smile are such a huge blessing for us all during this difficult time. Teaching Marissa brings me immense joy. It’s a true honor to have her at the Pagoda.” Marissa is the daughter of Amber and Michael Doescher, of Jamestown.
Emma Hensel, third grade, Columbia Elementary — Emma, the daughter of Joshua and Lana Hensel, of Columbia, “is sweet and a kind friend to all,” said teacher Debbie Gardiner. “She is always eager to help anyone in need. Emma is a hard worker and always tries her best. I really have enjoyed having Emma in my class. “
Riley Carlson, 12th grade, Connections Visual and Performing Arts Academy — “Our teachers have been really impressed with Riley this year,” said school staff. “She is completely engaged in class, offers great input, makes great additions to class discussions and is working exceptionally well. She is more focused, mature and determined this year and is earning A’s in all of her classes. Her teachers look forward to her continued development as a student and individual and are excited to see how she continues to flourish. Thanks for being awesome Riley!” Riley is the daughter of Brian and Jennifer Carlson, of Sonora.
Daniel Gregston, 12th grade, Connections Visual and Performing Arts Academy — “Daniel is a consistent 110% effort student,” said his teachers. “He is a true overachiever and always goes above and beyond what is expected. He isn’t just a good student, but a super nice person. He thinks of others and is a great leader in class and out of class. Daniel is also a great musician, soccer player and an amazing track athlete. He is ranked in the top of his class with an impressive 4.21 cumulative GPA and recently was awarded the Front Porch STEM scholarship of $16,000. Daniel plans to pursue a four year degree. Thanks for being awesome Daniel!” Daniel is the son of Cliff and Ericka Gregston, of Soulsbyville.
Daniel Sarabia, first grade, Curtis Creek Elementary
— “Daniel displays this month’s character trait which is responsibility,” said teacher Jessica Holman. “He does this by always trying his best inside the classroom and outside during recess. Daniel is a fantastic role model for his peers. He is a caring and helpful gentleman and is always respectful towards adults. He is an enthusiastic participant during classroom discussions. I can always count on Daniel to be responsible and have a positive attitude during our school day.” Daniel is the son of Jose and Ana Sarabia, of Sonora.
Ashley Smith, 12th grade, Dario Cassina High — Ashley, the daughter of Diana Riley, of Jamestown, “is a dedicated student who deserves to be student of the month,” said counselor Eric Knapp. “During this difficult time, she has been able to earn perfect attendance, always respectful and on her way to graduating early, while maintaining a job. I am so proud of her.”
Bailey Tischman, 12th grade, Don Pedro High — “Bailey is a responsible and engaged student and daughter,” said school staff. “She has taken the opportunity to take college courses at DPHS. During this hard time of distance learning, she has put forth an outstanding effort, positive attitude and is an example for fellow students to emulate. Bailey is one of the most competitive athletes at Don Pedro High. Her sports include volleyball and basketball where she is a leader and all-around top team player. After high school Bailey plans on attending Modesto Junior College and working toward a career in nursing. We are so proud of the student she has become in her four years at Don Pedro High School. We are excited to see what the world holds for this shining star. Congratulations!” Bailey is the daughter of Amy Tischman and Justin Eaton, of the Don Pedro area.
Chloe Curfman, 10th grade, Gold Rush Charter — Chloe, the daughter of Clare Olson, of Sonora, “is a straight A student,” said teacher Rob Durling. “She is always positive and tries her best to succeed. Since coming to Gold Rush last year, she has flourished. Chloe is a pleasure to work with.”
Joseph Pink, eighth grade, Hickman Charter — “While at Hickman, Joe’s quiet nature, humble heart, willingness to be a friend to everyone, and perseverance have made him a stand out student at our school,” said teacher Emily Erhardt. “Joseph is a bright and capable student that brings humor to the classroom through his quick wit and smile. Joseph is a skilled writer and captures his readers in the stories he spins. In addition, one of his favorites subjects is science with an interest in chemistry. In his free time, Joseph enjoys playing soccer, golfing, creating videos, playing games, gaming, and being with his parents and three siblings. We are so proud of this student and are grateful that he is part of our school.” Joseph is the son of Jason and Dana Pink, of Sonora.
Alvaro Lopez, first grade, Jamestown Elementary — Alvaro, the son of Esther Lopez, of Jamestown, “is such a pleasure to have in class,” said teacher Delsy Sedlmeyer. “He has a positive and resilient attitude. He shows kindness and patience in everything he does. He has an incredible sense of humor and can always put a smile on anyone’s face. Alvaro always sets a good example and is an incredible role model for his classmates.”
Joy Elizabeth Goodwin, first grade, Lake Don Pedro Elementary — Joy Elizabeth, the daughter of Mary Joy and Jonathan Goodwin, of La Grange, “has gently extended her kindness to ensure all classmates are included,” said teacher Loree Burroughs. “She has quickly learned the newest rules and responsibilities that are part of being a Lake Don Pedro Coyote this year. She is a diligent and dedicated student. Joy Elizabeth consistently demonstrates eagerness to learn new things and apply all that she knows. She is full of life and loves challenges. Joy
Elizabeth’s positive outlook makes each day a happy one.”
Royce Roland, first grade, Mother Lode Christian — Royce, the son of Jason and Kristin Roland, of Sonora, “is an enthusiastic learner,” said teacher Amber Karpus. “Each day he comes bouncing into class excited and ready to learn. He is kind, caring and friendly to others. He consistently uses his personal best efforts on a daily basis completing all assignments. Royce is always offering to help me. He is a fun student.”
Nathanyel Winans, 12th grade, Sonora High — “Nathan is incredibly diligent and insightful,” said school staff. “In each of his interactions with students and staff he is always genuine and respectful, earnestly seeking to encourage those around him. He exemplifies integrity and positivity as he influences our campus and our community. Nathan has very high academic standards for himself. He has maintained a 3.9 GPA in some of our most rigorous courses as well as accomplished a 4.0 in college courses in or Middle College program. We are very proud Nathanyel is a Sonora High Wildcat!” Nathan is the son of Chad and Syrena Winans, of Sonora.
Adam Corder, fifth grade, Soulsbyville Elementary — “Adam is kind and polite every day,” said teacher Karen Cedros. “He cares about what he is learning and always does his best.” Adam is the son of Jason Corder and Mary Montoya, of Soulsbyville.
West Dyer, eighth grade, Summerville Elementary — “West consistently produces excellent quality work,” said school staff. “He is engaged in class and thoughtful in his responses. West is an outgoing and friendly student and works well with others, while still being able to present viewpoints that may sometimes be different from his peers. It is a pleasure to have West as a student at Summerville elementary, and we are confident that he will do much to impact his community in the years to come.” West is the son of CJ and Dae Dyer, of Sonora.
Kamryn Pitcher, 12th grade, Summerville High
— Kamryn, the daughter of Richard and Joette Pitcher, of Sonora, “is a top student at Summerville High,” said Deputy Principal Stephen Sweitzer. “She currently has a 4.0 and is actively involved in student government and leadership at Summerville. Her biomedical science teacher says, ‘Kamryn is hard working, kind, looks out for those around her, responsible and organized!’ Her economics teacher said, ’kamryn’s leadership and maturity are valuable and appreciated in class. Her effort and classwork are models for others.’ Summerville High is proud to have leaders like Kamryn Pitcher on our campus.”
Madilynn Moriarty, first grade, Tenaya Elementary
— Madilynn, the daughter of Alyssa and James Moriarty, of Groveland, “is kind, polite and responsible,” said teacher Penny Williamson. “During online learning and in the classroom, she is always prepared and participates in class discussions. She has a great attitude and sets a great example for other students. She is eager to learn and it has been wonderful to have her in class.”
Isaac Wells, 12th grade, Theodore Bird High — Isaac, the son of Aimee and Shawn Wells, of Jamestown, “works hard in his courses and always does a great job,” said teacher Jeff Hansten. “Isaac is a great guy and a fun person to know. He plans to continue his education after high school and work toward a career in the computer technology field.”
America Torres, seventh grade, Twain Harte Elementary — “There are many wonderful things about America that are worth describing,” said teacher Mike Brown. “She is a hard worker and enthusiastic learner. She asks questions when she needs help, completes all her assignments, and does them all neatly and meticulously. America also has an outstanding leader in the classroom. She is kind and respectful to her teachers, helpful to others, and a role model for her peers. America likes to be at school, and we like to have her here. Way to go, America! America is the daughter of Rick Torres and Amy Torres, of Twain Harte.
